I felt moved to write this on behalf of the United Methodist Motorcycle Association (UMMA) and it’s founders, Eddie and Patty Gill, and their magnificent ministry. I was formerly a member of another prominent motorcycle ministry but became disenchanted because I felt something was missing. It seemed the focus was not on ministry. I eventually left that organization, on good terms I might add, and began to minister on my own with my motorcycle, talking to anyone I came across….mostly in parking lots. During that time, I became a certified lay minister in the United Methodist Church and the motorcycle ministry just felt like a very good fit between the two. I felt a strong call to reach out to those in the community or the unchurched and the motorcycle afforded me a tool to do that. I then came across the UMMA website and felt an immediate connection. Their mission is to “Take the church out of the 4 walls” and meet people where they are….taking the church t...
When Eddie and Patty Gill visited Maryland in July of 2017, I met them to escort them to their campsite. We first had to stop so that he could gas up the Jesus bus. While gasing up at the Wawa in Frederick, MD, Eddie (UMMA) and myself struck up a conversation with Dwayne. We ended up blessing his bike and praying with him right there by the gas pumps. We then invited him to church Sunday and a ride after and guess who showed up? He said he loved hanging out with us and said no one ever invited him to anything like this before. YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP! Please be bold and step out of your comfort zone. Share the love of Jesus with others. You never know whose life you may touch and make a difference in. Duane has since been a regular attendee of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and is now a member of UMMA in Maryland. He has participated in numerous rides representing UMMA and their mission for a Million Miles for Christ. Pr...
Hi my name is Ben Harrison. My wife, Kris, and I live in central Wisconsin. We rode ‘BC’ (Before Children) and took it up again in 2001. Since then we have ridden over 70,000 miles on a variety of motorcycles, our current bike is a 2015 Goldwing. When we are traveling on vacation we take our dog with us. Although not a large dog she is no pocket pooch either, a 20” tall and 40lbs Goldendoodle named Dixie. She rides in a trailer that we modified for her. During this time we started a local riders group called “Riders in Faith” that draws riders from over 100 mile radius but I kept looking for a larger Christian-based group that we were comfortable joining and eventually Google found the UMMA. Through this organization we met Eddie and Patty Gill and our lives have never been the same, and that is a great thing. They came to visit our group in 2016 and we look forward to every chance we get to see them again.
